Around the world in song – everyone welcome!
It’s that time of year when the Singing Safari sets off on its imaginary journey round the world. Woodbridge choirmaster Chris Rowbury is inviting people to join him in Ipswich for six weekly sessions to learn a bunch of songs which will then be performed as part of Holywells Park’s Grand Opening Event on Sunday 18th July to celebrate the completion of the park’s restoration.
The Singing Safari begins on Tuesday 9th June, collecting songs from wild and exotic places to build a choir from scratch.
Anyone from 16 to 80 who loves to sing is welcome – whether you just sing in the bath or are already in a choir. Everyone is invited along for fun rehearsals each Tuesday from 7:30pm to 9:30pm at the Co-op Education Centre, 11 Fore Street, Ipswich IP4 1JW starting Tuesday 9th June (there is a large free car park accessible from Waterworks Street — use IP4 1JG for Sat Nav).
There are no auditions, no need to read music and nobody will be asked to sing solo. Come and learn songs from Africa, Eastern Europe, USA, the South Seas and beyond – all in glorious, unaccompanied harmony. There may even be some dance moves! There will be a small charge of £30 for the whole series of workshops, final rehearsal and performance. Come and try out the first rehearsal free before paying for the six sessions.
Chris Rowbury has 30 years’ experience as a patient, charismatic teacher with a relaxed style laced with plenty of humour. He will get you singing in wonderful harmony in a matter of minutes.
Join him on the Singing Safari and be part of a supportive group, have fun and a bit of a laugh, find your natural voice, discover new songs from other cultures, feel the joy of creating rich and vibrant harmonies, sing your heart out and make some new mates. Over 50 singers wowed the crowds in Holywells Park last summer and even managed to make the rain stop! Let’s try to make a bigger noise in 2014.
